Unit 1: About Me Introduction Paragraphs and Presentations

Day 1 - Pre Assessment

 

  1. Rules
  2. Learning Goal Levels
  3. About me task: Write a five paragraph essay introducing yourself by giving three aspects of your life that would help someone understand you better. Include the following: 
    1. A title that captures the individualized content of the essay
    2. An introductory paragraph that captures each aspect of the essay
    3. Three body paragraphs that capture each aspect of your life individually
    4. A conclusion paragraph that restates the content of the essay
    5. All paragraphs should be 6-8 sentences long
    6. Spelling should be correct or underlined if you tried but are not sure if it is spelled correctly.
    7. Proper grammar to the best of your ability
    8. Neat handwriting to the best of your ability
  4. You must use the entire time given to write independently and if you feel that you have done all you can do, begin revising your work. This means rereading it, finding words, phrases, and thoughts you want to change, add, or delete.

Day 2 - Thesis Statements and Introductions

 

  1. What is a thesis statement?
  2. Mr. Field’s Introduction paragraph
  3. Thesis statement practice
  4. Introduction paragraph rewrite -including your thesis statement.
  5. Grammar homework Introduction.

Day 3 - Intro Paragraphs

 Lesson

 

  1. Know and identify the 8 parts of speech: A^3, P^2, NVC
  2. Model Introductory Paragraph 
    1. Thesis Review
    2. Family
    3. Shine a Light Video
  3. Silent Group Work: you must communicate through your writing and edits.
  4. Write your own introductory paragraph 
    1. Get corrections from your group by trading papers when you have finished your paragraph:
    2. Feedback should be anything you need to add, change, correct.
    3. Get feedback from Mr. Field
  5. If you finish early or are waiting for other group members, begin writing your body paragraphs.

Homework: Work on IXL, for at least 10 minutes each, on O:1, 2 and 3 shown in the image below

    1. A Hook, Bridge, Three points, a Thesis Statement, and a conclusion.
    2. Get your work checked by Mr. Field or student checker assigned to you.
    3. If revisions are asked for, make them as annotations on your draft. (Level 2)
    4. Type your paragraph in Google Docs (Level 3)
    5. If you are asked, become a student editor. (Level 4)
  2. Create a multimedia presentation that your paragraph introduces.(Level 5)

Day 5 - Silent Reading & Summaries

  1. Read the first portion of your assigned novel for 30 minutes
  2. Write an objective summary of what you read that includes

a. Topic

       b. Main Idea

                    c. Three supporting details

                      d. A conclusion sentence

Day 6 - Peer Edits and Grades for About Me Paragraphs

Day 7 Final Day for Introduction Paragraphs, Presentations.

  1. Identify the H, B, 1, 2, 3, T, and C sentences in your intro paragraph. (Level 3)
  2. Get one to two pieces of feedback about your work and make needed changes.
  3. Recheck

  5. Type your paragraph and submit it on Canvas
  6. If there is time remaining, begin your multimedia presentation.
